Concept
This was another rather minor project that got away from me a little bit. It was 2013, I had just assumed the mantle of "Dungeon Master" for my D&D group and had tested the group with some physical props. But I wanted to do something bolder. I wanted to create something exciting! Just recently a player had picked up a book in game detailing the demon wars, a piece of in-game history I wasn't too excited to sit and explain, since I'm not much for exposition. I though instead, how cool would it be to create the in game book? Then the players could just read the exposition in a cute and fun way!

Method
I wanted it to be a children's book, but I also think I wanted something with slightly more sinister overtones, I opted for a soft art style with abundant use of color, as the demons were representative of the seven deadly sins, I wanted to tie colors to that as a theme I could use later in the campaign. I also developed an individual symbol for each demon that is lightly superimposed over the background behind the text. Then as is my usual style, I wrote the copy text for each page first, letting the length of my story determine how many pages it would be, then I sketched each image, scanned it in & colored it digitally.

Reflection
This is quite an old project now. But looking back on it I wish I had used simpler language and structured it more like a children's book. As it stands now I can't really call it that. But it certainly isn't a book for adults. I also am not terribly fond of the repetitive structure. I could've done something more creative with the layout. Overall I'm not unhappy with it, but it certainly is quite an old project.
